10th Annual International High Containment Biosafety Workshop

The 10th Annual International High Containment Biosafety Workshop is a co-presentation of the Public Health Agency of Canada and the International Centre for Infectious Diseases, Sandia National Laboratories and Merrick & Company.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) was created in September 2004 to strengthen Canada’s ability to protect the health and safety of Canadians. PHAC is focussed on more effective efforts to prevent chronic diseases, like cancer and heart disease, prevent injuries and respond to public health emergencies and infectious disease outbreaks. Winnipeg is home to one of the Agency’s two headquarters locations and its National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) in the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health (CSCHAH) .The CSCHAH is a state-of-the-art laboratory complex jointly operated by PHAC and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The facility includes BSL 2 and 3 laboratories, along with Canada's first BSL 4 laboratories. The Centre is the first facility in the world designed with high containment laboratories for both human and animal health research.

The International Centre for Infectious Diseases (ICID) is a not-for-profit corporation with a mission to advance Canada’s infectious diseases capacity and facilitate the application of Canadian infectious diseases expertise domestically and internationally. The ICID aspires to a national leadership role within Canada’s infectious diseases community, bringing together collaborators, advocating for the sector, and encouraging the development of major initiatives. This is the second time that ICID is serving as organizer and co-host of the International High Containment Biosafety Workshop, a critical opportunity for sharing Canadian biosafety expertise with the world.
